The University of Texas Golf Club is located at Steiner Ranch in the Hill Country of northwest Austin, overlooking Lake Austin and is the new home of the Texas men's and women's golf teams. The UT Golf Club has a 7,412-yard, par 71 championship-caliber golf course created by Bechtol Russell Golf Design. Built in the Texas Hill Country, the course overlooks Lake Austin and borders the Balcones Natural Wildlife Preserve, offering challenging shots and views that rival the best in Austin.
UT Golf Academy
The 5,100-square-foot academy building includes locker rooms, coaches offices, and equipment room and three all-weather hitting bays featuring TrackMan launch monitors and club fitting/adjustment areas. There are also several lounge and recreational areas including a fire pit and basketball court.
The $1.2-million project is being financed by UT Athletics' fundraising activities, which includes pro-am tournaments, as well as other private gifts.
The UT Golf Academy is also surrounded by a vast short-game practice area that features three bunkers and a wedge-only tee area.
Through the generosity of Joan Whitworth, both the men's and women's golf teams enjoy a chipping and pitching area that spans nearly one full acre. On this area, players work on numerous types of short game shots across a 14,000 square foot Tiff Eagle grass green. Additionally, there is a 4,000 square foot Tiff Eagle grass putting green overseeded with Rye in the winter time.
The Pat Weis pitching area on the far west side of the driving range and adjacent to the UT Golf Academy was funded primarily through donations by women's golf letterwinners and other friends of Texas Men's and Women's Golf. Designed for shots 115 yards and shorter, the teeing area angles toward a new green devoted exclusively for short-game use.
The Spieth Lower 40 short course is a six-hole par-3 course built on 4 1/2 acres between the member’s range and the first hole at the University of Texas Golf Club.
Student-athletes routinely enjoy dinner on the course, in the clubhouse, featuring a menu hand-picked by Amy Culp and the chef.
