Energy and water conservation is an effort to reduce the amount of water and energy we consume. By using more energy efficient methods, we reduce pollution, as energy consumption can produce harmful environmental emissions. Additionally, while water is a renewable resource, drinking water only makes up about 3% of this supply. By reusing and recycling water, we can reduce the amount of fresh water we consume.
Our goal is to promote the conservation of energy and water throughout Texas Athletics. We aim to raise public awareness by undertaking projects to cut down our energy and water footprints, while improving the Texas fan experience.
The 2017 Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium North End Zone recommissioning resulted in 30% water savings and 16% energy savings -- an overall 21% cost reduction. In addition to being the first PEER (Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal) certified campus in the world, UT Austin has installed just over 500kw of solar photovoltaic arrays on the main campus, almost all in support of research initiatives.
