Post-collegiate Open and Unattached Athletes
• If you are entering yourself as an unattached/open INDIVIDUAL athlete, you must create an INDIVIDUAL athlete account at directathletics.com.
• If you are entering a club/open relay or are a coach submitting multiple club/open entries from one club affiliation, you should create a team account at directathletics.com and select "Club" as the team type.
• Open/club relays must be entered through a club TEAM account -- NOT an INDIVIDUAL athlete account.
• Post Collegiate/unattached athletes should click/enter "invitational" at direct athletics for the following events: 100, 100HH, 110HH, 200, 400H, 800, Jerry Thompson Mile. Individuals will not be added to University/Collegiate sections for these events.
• Professional athletes, coaches, or agents wishing to submit professional athletes into Invitational events or requesting a special consideration entry into a University/Collegiate division event may also email texasrelays@athletics.utexas.edu with very specific details on your entry request including name, affiliation, best time/mark from this season (or 2023 if you have no mark from this year). Participation is limited based on availability, & marks will need to be elite (top end of the university/collegiate sections) for consideration.
• Athlete entries are encouraged to indicate some amount of recent fitness or performance information to be considered.
Attention Invitational Athletes
The Invitational Division events are by invitation only to collegiate or professional/club/unattached athletes.
A professional/club/unattached entry may be added into a University/College event only if it greatly enhances the competitive opportunity for that event. Invitational athletes are ineligible for awards.
*IMPORTANT – Entering athletes/relays into the meet DOES NOT GUARANTEE that they are accepted into the meet. Invitational Events are VERY selective as well as based on time & space constraints.

Event Entry Procedures
Important information
Texas Relays online entry: directathletics.com
Online entry support email: support@directathletics.com
Texas Relays email: texasrelays@athletics.utexas.edu
Relay event entry procedure
For Invitational Division Relay Events, entry marks are encouraged to be an estimated mark by totaling the personal bests of the 4 athletes racing together. Relays should be entered with all possible athletes that might compete, 4 athletes plus a maximum of another 4 alternates. A combination of professional/club/unattached athletes are acceptable.
Please provide some kind of cohesive Relay name (examples: TX Elite, “Sponsor-name” Elite, etc). However, Relay names using “USA” are reserved for the USATF designated relay team entries.
*Special Circumstance Considerations: In rare situations, we may allow a special circumstance consideration. The entry MUST be made on Direct Athletics along with an entry note prior to the entry deadline. In addition, you would email texasrelays@athletics.utexas.edu referencing the online entry & providing as much detail as possible as well as a direct contact email & phone number. Remember, these would be very rare situations. DO NOT request a special consideration for things like “Athlete X is really ready to make a huge improvement”, or “Athlete X ran fast in a time trial at a recent practice”. We will take the minimum accepted qualifiers in each event directly from the rank order list of valid entries; any special circumstance consideration would only be “in addition” to the minimum accepted qualifiers listed in the table above. An example might be an injured Olympian/World ranked athlete during the 2023 season in an event but is recently showing current fitness & competitiveness nearing their best marks.

Meet Procedures
• NCAA rules will prevail unless for procedural reasons as depicted in this manual.
• We will prepare a time schedule for preliminary events after all scratches have been received. You are responsible for knowing about this time schedule. It is a guideline only. The Texas Relays runs on a strict time schedule and no calls will be made for individual athletes/relay teams to report.
• Wristbands (not numbers or uniforms) will admit athletes to the stadium.
• Every participant must wear a number during competition.
• The number must be worn on the front of the jersey. The bib may not be worn sideways or upside down so that the number is most easily visible by officials and photofinish cameras.
• Failure to participate:
- Competitors or relay teams must participate in the trials and/or finals of all events in which they are declared. Such participation is also required in subsequent rounds as a result of qualifying, or when participation is a criterion for entry in a subsequent meet.
- Participation is the expectation that a competitor start the athletic challenge requirements of the event, according to the rules of the event. Qualification to the next round of an event is, in itself, satisfaction of participation.
- A failure to participate is considered an assumption that the competitor in violation has abandoned the competition and, therefore, shall be barred from all remaining events in the current meet.
- The referee, upon proper protest, based upon all authorized evidence and with consideration given to circumstances beyond the control of the competitor, including medical, shall determine whether circumstances clearly demonstrate that a violation of this rule has occurred.
- In regards to the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, exceptions may be made by the meet referee in the case of extreme inclement weather conditions.
• Review of finish line photos will be made by the Meet Referee only. All requests to have a photo finish picture reviewed shall be made in writing at the tables located at the northeast corner of the track. You will be notified by the meet referee of his ruling.
• Nine teams and individuals will qualify for all running event finals. Running event ties will be broken by the Meet Referee rereading the phototimer images up to one-ten thousandths of a second. If the times remain the same, and the affected teams or individuals ran in the same heat, the higher placer will advance. If the tie remains and the teams are in different heats, the tie will be broken by the higher placing team/individual. All field event ties involving the ninth qualifying position will be advanced to finals.
• In races with large fields, we may use alleys instead of lanes.
• Events will not be delayed for those competitors who double.
• If relay teams qualify for a final but do not plan to run, please notify the Meet Referee or Meet Clerks at the tables located between Gates 2 and 3 on the south end of the Track.
