Devon Mulry
- Title:
- Director of Player Development
2nd season at Texas
Devon Mulry begins his second season as Director of Player Development at The University of Texas.
UT registered a 19-12 record and tied for third place in the Big 12 Conference (9-9 mark) during the 2019-20 season. Texas was the No. 4 seed in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, but the league’s postseason tourney and all postseason college basketball was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 27-year-old Mulry came to Texas in August 2019 after serving as assistant coach and JV head coach at Lake Superior State University (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) under head coach Steve Hettinga during the 2018-19 season. In his one year at Lake Superior State (NCAA Division II), Mulry helped the Lakers post a 15-12 mark (11-9 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).
Prior to his time at Lake Superior State, Mulry spent seven years with the University of Michigan men’s basketball program. He began as a student manager for two years before earning a promotion to the head manager position for his junior and senior years. As the head manager, Mulry was responsible for supervising all 18 student managers, editing game film and assisting with team logistics.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Michigan in 2015, Mulry served in the role as Graduate Operations Intern for the 2015-16 season. He helped manage day-to-day operations, including budget and scheduling, and was instrumental in organizing and staffing the John Beilein Basketball Camps held throughout the summer.
During the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, Mulry worked as a graduate assistant coach. In that role, he worked directly with Head Coach John Beilein and the assistant coaches to analyze game film, prepare scouting reports and game plans and organize recruiting schedules.
In his two seasons as a graduate assistant, the Wolverines captured back-to-back Big Ten Conference Tournament titles, earned consecutive NCAA Tournament “Sweet 16” appearances and advanced to the 2018 NCAA Championship game.
Mulry earned a Master of Management degree (2016) and a Master of Arts in Higher Educations (2018) during his three years as a postgraduate student at the University of Michigan.
A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., he was born on June 9, 1993. Mulry graduated from Caledonia High School (Caledonia, Mich.) in 2011.
