5th season at Texas
Eric Fry begins his fifth season as the athletic trainer for the men’s basketball program at The University of Texas. Prior to coming to Texas, the 35-year-old Fry spent two years (2007-09) as the athletic trainer for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball program.
Fry served as an assistant athletic trainer for three years with the University of Colorado men’s basketball and football programs. He also spent two years at the University of Denver, working as an athletic trainer with the volleyball, men’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s ski teams.
Fry began his professional career as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Wisconsin. While with the Badgers, he worked primarily with the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams along with the men’s and women’s soccer programs. He received a master’s degree in higher education administration in May 2002 from Wisconsin.
Fry completed his undergraduate studies at Purdue University in 2000 and earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. While at Purdue, Fry worked as a student athletic trainer with the football, baseball and men’s basketball teams. During his undergraduate career, he also worked as an intern athletic trainer with the Kenai Peninsula Oilers, a summer baseball team in Kenai, Alaska.
A native of Greensburg, Ind., Fry is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and College Athletic Trainers’ Society. He also is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Fellow of Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute.
Fry volunteers for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Sports Medicine Department. He served as the athletic trainer for the U.S. Tae Kwon Do and golf teams during the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand. This past summer, he traveled to Amsterdam, Netherlands to serve as the athletic trainer for the U.S. Beach Volleyball team during a FIVB Grand Slam tournament.
Fry and his wife, Sarah, reside in Austin.
