3rd season at Texas
William Wyatt begins his third season as a special assistant at The University of Texas. The 33-year-old Wyatt assists in all internal operations of the basketball program.
Prior to joining the Texas coaching staff, Wyatt spent four months as Vice President/Brokerage Services at CNL Commercial Real Estate, Inc., in Dallas. He previously worked for four years (2008-12) as Senior Associate/Tenant Representation at Jones Lang LaSalle in Dallas and for four years (2005-08) as Associate Vice President and Director of Market Research for The Staubach Company in Austin and San Antonio.
Wyatt also served as assistant varsity boys’ basketball coach at Triple A Academy in Dallas for two seasons (2010-12). He helped the school’s junior varsity team post a 34-1 record in 2010-11 while playing primarily with an eighth-grade team roster. Triple A Academy’s 2011-12 varsity squad recorded a 25-8 mark in the school’s first season of varsity play.
A reserve forward who played in 52 career games during his first two seasons at UT (1999-2000 and 2000-01), he elected to end his playing career after his sophomore season due to a knee injury. Wyatt underwent four knee surgeries between the middle of his junior year in high school and the end of his freshman season at Texas. He then served as an undergraduate student assistant coach for two years, helping the 2001-02 team advance to the NCAA “Sweet 16” and the 2002-03 squad reach the Final Four.
Following his sophomore season, Wyatt received the Jay Arnette Award, presented to the UT player for his behind-the-scenes efforts and contributions to the team. An active community service participant throughout his undergraduate career, Wyatt was Texas’ nominee for the 2000-01 Big 12 Conference Male Sportsperson of the Year award. He earned his bachelor’s degree (BBA) in business administration/finance with a minor in management in 2003 and received his master’s degree in sport management in 2005 from UT.
A 1999 graduate of South Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas, he led his team to a 24-11 record and the second round of the Class 5A state tournament in his senior year. Wyatt was the first freshman ever to start at South Grand Prairie.
Born Oct. 24, 1980, Wyatt is a native of Dallas, Texas. He has served as a board member for the Trinity Commons Foundation, the West Dallas Chamber of Commerce and ScholarShot and was on the Barbara Jordan Statue Advisory Committee at The University of Texas.
