First Season at Texas
A former player at Texas during the Rick Barnes era, Jonathan Holmes begins his first year as Graduate Assistant with the men’s basketball program at The University of Texas. Prior to returning to Austin, Holmes served as a graduate assistant for one year (2021-22) at Texas Tech.
Following his collegiate career, Holmes played professionally for six years in the NBA Development League and overseas. After missing the 2015-16 season due to injury, Holmes played for FC Barcelona Lassa in Spain (2016-17), the Canton Charge in the NBA D-League (2017), the Maine Red Claws in the NBA D-League (2017-18), Hapel Tel Aviv in Israel (2018), Yokohama B-Corsairs in Japan (2019), Real Canoe Natacion Club in Spain (2020), Kumanovo in North Macedonia (2021) and KK Sentjur of the Premier A Slovenian Basketball League (2022).
During his four playing seasons (2011-15) at Texas, Holmes saw action in 127 career games (108 starts) and averaged 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in 20.1 minutes per contest. He reached double figures in scoring 58 times and in rebounds 15 times while recording nine career double-doubles. For his career, Holmes converted 45.7-percent (397-869) from the floor and 73.7-percent (258-350) from the free throw line. He concluded his career ranked No. 24 on UT’s all-time scoring list (1,166 points) and No. 9 in rebounds (749).
In his senior season in 2014-15, Holmes played in 32 games (31 starts) and earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention accolades. He ranked second on the team in scoring (10.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.1 rpg) and fourth in blocked shots (33) in 26.1 minutes per contest. Holmes claimed 2K Classic Tournament MVP and Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week (Nov. 24) honors by averaging 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while hitting 56.5-percent (13-23) from the field and 76.9-percent (10-13) from the free throw line in wins against Iowa and California at Madison Square Garden.
Holmes earned USBWA All-District VII Team, NABC All-District 8 Second Team and All-Big 12 Second Team honors as a junior in 2013-14. He led the team in scoring (12.8 ppg) and ranked second on the team in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and third in blocks (40) while averaging 24.3 minutes per game.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Holmes earned his bachelor’s degree in Applied Learning and Development from The University of Texas in 2015.
