Reily Buechler Canter enters her third season on the Texas Volleyball coaching staff in 2026 after rejoining the Longhorns as an assistant coach prior to the 2024 season.
In her second season on staff, Buechler Canter helped guide Texas to a 26-4 record and an NCAA Regional Final appearance. The Longhorns’ defense was anchored by senior libero Emma Halter, who finished her career ranked No. 8 on the Texas all-time digs list with 1,307 career digs and earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention recognition for the first time. Texas also produced four SEC postseason honorees in Torrey Stafford, Cari Spears, Abby Vander Wal and Taylor Stafford.
During her first season on staff in 2024, Buechler Canter helped Texas reach the NCAA Regional Semifinal after the Longhorns swept Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and USC in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament at home. Texas finished the season 20-7, placed second in the SEC standings and earned four All-SEC honors, including first-team selections Madisen Skinner and Marianna Singletary, second-team selection Reagan Rutherford and All-Freshman Team honoree Ayden Ames. Skinner was also named an AVCA Second Team All-American.
Buechler Canter previously served as a volunteer assistant coach with Texas during the 2019 and 2020 seasons before returning to the program as a full-time assistant coach in 2024. During her time on staff, she has helped the Longhorns capture three conference championships, including consecutive Big 12 titles in 2019 and 2020 and the program’s first SEC Championship in 2025. The 2019 Texas team earned the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, finished 23-4 and advanced to the NCAA Regional Semifinal.
While in Austin during her first stint with the Longhorns, Buechler Canter also coached club volleyball at Austin Skyline Volleyball Club. Following her time in Austin, she returned to her hometown and coached at San Diego Wave, her former club program.
Buechler Canter played four seasons as an outside hitter at UCLA from 2014-17, finishing her career with 1,562 kills, 922 digs and 189 total blocks. She earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors as a senior in 2017 after receiving honorable mention recognition in each of her first three seasons. During her senior campaign, she led the Bruins with 3.40 kills per set while ranking third on the team with 2.61 digs per set and adding 21 service aces and 0.46 blocks per set.
During her career at UCLA, Buechler Canter helped the Bruins reach the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons, including an appearance in the 2016 NCAA Regional Final. UCLA also hosted first and second round NCAA Tournament matches each of those seasons.
A native of San Diego, California, Buechler Canter was a standout at Torrey Pines High School and San Diego Wave. She earned San Diego CIF Player of the Year honors and First Team All-San Diego County recognition in both 2012 and 2013. She was also named First Team All-State and an Under Armour All-American as a senior. Following her 2018 graduation from UCLA, Buechler Canter worked as a sales representative for Oracle in San Diego before beginning her coaching career. She and her husband, Chris Canter, were married in 2023.
