Travis Vlantes joined the St. David’s Healthcare/Sports Science staff at The University of Texas in 2017 as Director of Applied Sports Science. During his time at UT, the applied sports science department has continued to expand the scope of information provided to coaches and student-athletes. On-field results have mirrored the growth in sports science as Texas Athletics has finished fifth, fourth and first in the Learfield IMG College Directors Cup during the past four years (2019-2020 was not awarded due to COVID-19).
Prior to arriving at Texas, Travis spent after three years at the University of Wyoming as an assistant sports performance coach. While at Wyoming, he worked with several Olympic sports teams implementing athlete monitoring, publishing research and serving as the internship coordinator.
Travis was an assistant strength & conditioning coach at West Texas A&M for two years while teaching undergraduate classes in kinesiology and interdisciplinary studies. Travis holds a master’s degree in exercise science from West Texas A&M and is certified through the National Strength & Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, as well as a Level 1 sports performance coach through USA Weightlifting.
A 2010 graduate of Wartburg College, Travis was a 4 year member of the Knight’s football team, earning his degree in Biology and completing sports performance internships with the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa. Travis, his wife Chantel and their son Easton reside in Leander, Texas.
