4th season at Texas
Taylor Fogleman is in his fourth season on the coaching staff at The University of Texas and third year as Associate Head Coach. After serving as an assistant coach in 2018, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach on Aug. 1, 2018.
During his time with the Longhorns, Texas has finished each of his first three years in the Top 10 of the final Oracle/ITA national polls, earning a No. 6 ranking in 2018, a No. 9 ranking in 2019 and a No. 4 ranking in 2020. The Longhorns won back-to-back outright Big 12 Conference regular-season championships in 2018 and 2019. This marked UT’s first back-to-back outright Big 12 regular-season titles since the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
He has helped a pair of Longhorns earn a total of three ITA All-America honors in singles. Bianca Turati claimed the accolade in 2018, while both Anna Turati and Bianca Turati garnered the honor in 2020.
Texas’ incoming 2020 recruiting class (Charlotte Chavatipon, Simran Kortikere, Malaika Rapolu and Peyton Stearns) was ranked No. 1 in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net. This marked the first time since TennisRecruiting.net began its recruiting team rankings in 2005 that UT claimed the top-ranked class in the nation. Three of UT’s incoming freshmen (Chavatipon, Rapolu and Stearns) were ranked among the Top 10 in the Class of 2020.
In his first year with the Longhorns (2018), Texas recorded a 24-5 dual-match record, swept the Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Round of 16. UT placed No. 6 in the final ITA national rankings, its highest final ranking since the 2005 season (No. 3). The Longhorns registered a 9-0 mark in Big 12 Conference play and won their first outright Big 12 regular-season title since 2004 and first Big 12 tournament title since 2013. Fogleman earned 2018 ITA Texas Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
Texas climbed to as high as No. 5 in the ITA poll (April 10, 2018) during the regular season, marking the program’s first top-five ranking since the Longhorns were No. 3 in February 2006. UT won 19 consecutive matches, the longest winning streak by the program since 1994, before falling in the NCAA Round of 16. In addition, the Longhorns hosted NCAA First and Second Round matches for the first time since the 2012 season.
Bianca Turati earned a final singles national ranking of No. 3, claimed ITA All-America honors in singles and garnered Big 12 Player of the Year recognition. She spent nearly three months atop the ITA women’s singles rankings, becoming the first UT player to top the ITA singles rankings since Kelly Pace in 1995. Turati also was the first Longhorn since Pace in 1995 to claim the top seed in the NCAA singles draw.
Anna Turati earned a final singles national ranking of No. 33 and claimed ITA Texas Region Player to Watch accolades. Bianca Turati, Anna Turati and Petra Granic each claimed All-Big 12 honors in singles, while the pairings of Bojana Markovic/Petra Granic and Anna Turati/Bianca Turati garnered All-Big 12 accolades in doubles.
Texas completed the 2019 season with a 19-5 dual-match record, won the Big 12 Conference regular-season title outright with a perfect 9-0 mark and advanced to the NCAA Round of 32. UT earned a No. 9 ranking in the final ITA national poll. Bianca Turati, Anna Turati and Petra Granic each claimed All-Big 12 honors in singles, while the duo of Anna Turati and Bianca Turati garnered All-Big 12 accolades in doubles.
Texas posted an 11-3 record (2-0 Big 12 Conference) in the shortened 2020 dual-match season (Covid-19 pandemic) and held the No. 4 spot in the final Oracle/ITA national poll on March 10. UT moved to the No. 3 spot in the national team rankings on Feb. 18, 2020, marking the highest ITA team ranking for the Longhorns since February 2006 when Texas also ranked third nationally. Texas registered victories against five opponents who were among the nation’s Top-25 teams in the final ITA rankings: No. 5 Ohio State, No. 7 North Carolina State, No. 9 Georgia Tech, No. 17 Michigan and No. 21 LSU.
The senior duo of Anna Turati and Bianca Turati both earned recognition as ITA Division I singles All-Americans. This marked the first time since the 1995 season that the Longhorns had at least two players claim ITA singles All-America honors in the same year.
Anna Turati earned her first career ITA singles All-America honor and concluded the season at No. 4 in the final Oracle/ITA national singles rankings (March 3). Bianca Turati claimed her second career ITA singles All-America honor and concluded the year at No. 14 in the final national singles ranking. Anna Turati was named the ITA Texas Regional Most Improved Senior, while the Turati twins shared the ITA Texas Regional Senior Player of the Year honors.
Fogleman joined the Longhorns on July 13, 2017 after serving the previous three seasons (2015-17) as an assistant women’s tennis coach at Rice University. The Owls won the Conference USA championship and advanced to the NCAA Championship in each of Fogleman’s three seasons on staff, and he helped Rice to NCAA Round of 64 wins in 2015 and 2016. A pair of Owls earned ITA All-America honors under Fogleman, and Rice totaled 18 all-conference selections during his time in Houston.
Fogleman spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Tulane prior to his appointment at Rice. He led the Green Wave to the NCAA Championships in 2014 and earned ITA Southern Region Assistant Coach of the Year accolades in 2013.
Fogleman played two years of professional tennis on the ATP Tour and reached as high as No. 551 in the world singles rankings after completing a sterling four-year career as a collegiate tennis player at the University of North Carolina. An ITA All-American in 2008 and 2009, he advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2008 NCAA doubles championship and the semifinals of the 2009 NCAA doubles championship. Fogleman climbed to as high as No. 3 nationally in doubles and No. 30 nationally in singles while helping the Tar Heels earn a No. 5 team ranking in the ITA national poll.
Fogleman earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from North Carolina in 2009. He completed work on a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from Tulane in 2014.
Fogleman and his wife, Lindsay, have one son, Ben.
