Coaches' corner: Co-Defensive Coordinator Gene Chizik

On the team: I'm getting to know the players off the field. Today was a really good experience to be able to see them work on the field. Slowly and surely we are going to be able to get a good feel for how we are going to play.
On being Texas' third defensive coordinator in three years: I don't think it affects the team. It's not something I really think they give much thought to. The kids are really resilient and very excited about football. I don't think they really care who coaches them. They love the game and they love playing for The University of Texas. They are excited about football and so am I. I know they are going to play hard just like they always do.
On his enthusiastic coaching style: I am a very excitable guy. Football is a passion for me. I get excited when I see good things. I give high fives and run around or do what ever I have to do. It's not a day one thing, that's just me. It is still a feeling out process. They are getting a feel for me and I'm getting a feel for them. It's all day by day.
On his first practice with Texas: I am excited about the first day and what I saw. I think they were excited to play today. I am very happy with the talent. Coach Brown and the whole staff did a phenomenal job recruiting before I ever got here. We have some good depth in some places and that is really exciting for me. It is so important, especially on defense where some games can get really ugly down the stretch if you don?t have depth. So depth is always a positive, and from what I see right now we are really on the right step with our depth.
