Beale and Dizdar claim Big 12 Player of the Week honors

DALLAS -- University of Texas junior Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) and sophomore Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) were named the Big 12 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for matches played from March 7-13, by the conference office on Monday, March 14. While Beale garners his first career weekly award, Dizdar receives her second honor in as many seasons.
Beale tallied a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles for the Horns in matches with No. 2 Virginia and No. 5 Duke. Ranked 44th nationally, Beale defeated No. 8 Doug Stewart (Virginia) 6-3, 6-3 and No. 5 Ludovic Walter (Duke) 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The wins mark the first time this season the junior has defeated consecutive top-10 opponents and ups his overall singles record to 8-0. Beale also posted a 1-1 record at No. 1 doubles with freshman Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.), improving his doubles mark to 5-3 on the year, with all matches coming at the No. 1 position.
Meanwhile, Dizdar posted a victory at No. 1 singles during the women's match with No. 8 Duke. The sophomore defeated No. 35 Katie Blaszak 7-5, 6-4 to mark her first upset of the season and improve her overall singles record to 5-4. She also teamed with junior Mia Marovic (Split, Croatia) to post a victory at No. 2 doubles to improve her season mark to 5-4 at the No. 2 spot.
The nationally-ranked Texas men's (No. 16) and women's (No. 15) tennis teams will spend their Spring Break in California, each for a pair of non-conference matches. The women face No. 10 UCLA and No. 13 USC on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 15-16, while the men will match up against UC-Irvine and No. 9 USC on Wednesday, March 16 and Friday, March, 18, respectively.
