UT's Osterman named one of 25 finalists for national player of the year

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Texas junior left-handed pitcher Cat Osterman (Houston, Texas) is one of 25 finalists for the 2005 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, the organization announced on Wednesday. Osterman, who won the award as a sophomore in 2003, is the only Texas player selected as a finalist, one of seven Big 12 Conference players chosen and one of 10 pitchers recognized.
This year's USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award represents the fourth time the honor will be bestowed. Osterman was the second-ever player to win the award in 2003. UCLA's Stacy Nuveman (2002) and Florida State's Jessica Van der Linden (2004) have also won the award.
On May 10 a list of 10 finalists will be named for the award. On May 31, the list will be cut to three and those final three players will travel to Oklahoma City for the announcement of the winner at 2005 Women's College World Series.
So far this season, Osterman leads the Big 12 Conference in ERA (0.27), opponent batting average (.060), strikeouts (299), strikeouts per 7.0 innings (16.3) and shutouts (10).
