Men's Track and Field takes six events at Houston Indoor Opener

HOUSTON -- The University of Texas men's track and field squad captured six events to successfully commence the 2006 indoor track season Saturday at the Houston Indoor Opener at the University of Houston's Yeoman Field House.
Senior Quincy Boles (Harker Heights, Texas) picked up the first UT victory when he edged Texas-Arlington's Jarrod Connaughton in the 55 meters, winning by two one-hundredths of a second in 6.21 seconds.Senior Trey Griffin (Lockhart, Texas) took third in 6.28, while senior Trey Hardee placed fifth in 6.32.
Junior Matt Munoz (Kingwood, Texas) soundly defeated Baylor's Rob Morrow to win the mile in 4:16.36. The Longhorns' distance-medley relay squad defeated Baylor by nearly one second to capture the event before junior Andra Manson (Brenham, Texas) ran away with the high jump with a leap of 7-5.75.
Senior Brian Robison (Splendora, Texas), who recently rejoined the track and field squad after completing football season, captured the shot put despite only limited recent training in the event.Robison took first with a heave of 58-6.50.
Sophomore John Rouse (Kaufman, Texas) recorded the final UT victory on the day with a winning toss in the weight throw of 57-1.50.
Texas returns to action on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Leonard Hilton Invitational in Houston.
