Longhorns trio one step away from ITA All-American main draw

TULSA, Okla. -- University of Texas juniors Luis Diaz Barriga (Cordoba, Mexico) and Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) and freshman Dimitar Kutrovsky (Sofia, Bulgaria) won their second qualifying-round matches in as many days at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Mihailovic was the first Longhorn off of the courts, as he defeated William and Mary's Alex Cojanu in a lengthy three-set affair, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-5. Mihailovic will take on Ohio State's Chris Klingemann on Wednesday.
Kutrovsky followed with another three-set win, a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over North Carolina State's James McGee to set up a Wednesday match with Ohio State's Steven Moneke. Diaz Barriga completed a sweep for the Longhorns when he set aside Western Michigan's Brady Crosby, winning by a 6-2, 7-5 count. Diaz Barriga will meet UCLA's Chris Surapol on Wednesday. Mihailovic, Kutrovsky and Diaz Barriga would each earn berths in the main singles draw with victories on Wednesday.
Kutrovsky and Mihailovic were eliminated from the doubles qualifying draw after falling to Ohio State's Justin Kronauge and Moneke, 9-7.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championship is one of three national-championship events on the 2006-07 schedule. The others are the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the NCAA Championships in May.
