Hey guys!
Hope you all enjoyed this weekend's nice weather like I did (minus the wind)! It was great to see all of you out at McCombs Field for our tournament. I know it was difficult to choose between baseball and us, but I am glad so many of you showed up for our games.
It was another great tournament here in Austin for our team. We got to play five games in three days, which really tested us, mentally and physically. This weekend was the first time this season that we have finished a tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, which is something that we have been striving to do. Our offense was on fire for all three days. We averaged close to seven runs a game and even run-ruled our opponents in two games.
As I said last weekend, our freshmen are proving themselves all the time and this weekend was no different. Loryn "LJ" Johnson and Tallie (Thrasher) added two home runs a piece and Kori (Cook) came through with a 3-for-4-performance against St. Johns.
Meagan Denny was perfect through six innings against St. Johns on Saturday before allowing an infield single to start the seventh inning. I was really bummed out about her losing the perfect game because part of my job as a catcher is to call a pitch that the batter can't hit. Her performance was one of the strongest outings I have seen Meagan pitch. I was very happy for her (and for our defense)!
Although we have not peaked yet, we have most definitely gotten better each tournament, however, I still think there are a few things that we need to work on in order to play at our highest potential. Maybe I am starting to develop higher expectations after each weekend, but I think we will be able to meet those expectations and even exceed them.
Wish us luck over the next two weeks. I will fill you in on our trip to California when we return. See you at McCombs soon!
Ciao,
Megan
