Big 12 Women's Basketball breaks own NCAA attendance record

DALLAS -- In 2006-07, Big 12 Conference women's basketball again set the NCAA national standard for attendance, as the dominant league broke its own NCAA record while leading the nation in attendance for the eighth consecutive year, as announced by the NCAA.
The league's 12 teams totaled 1,023,576 fans for a 5,170 average in 2006-07. The Big 12 held the previous NCAA record with 1,002,251 spectators in 2002 and is the only league in NCAA history to reach and surpass the one million fan mark.
The conference averaged over 5,000 fans in 2006-07 for the sixth time since 2001, as the Big 12 has recorded six of the seven 5,000 averages in NCAA history.
Ten Big 12 schools were ranked in the Top 50 for average home attendance, led by Texas Tech, third nationally with 10,668 fans per game. The University of Texas, going 18-14 overall and 13-5 at home at the Frank Erwin Center, averaged 5,044 fans per game to rank 19th.
The top five NCAA women's hoops conference attendance leaders for 2006-07 were: 1. Big 12 (a record-1,023,576; average of 5,170 fans per game); 2. Big Ten Conference (773,446; 4,321 average); 3. SEC (753,702; 3,926 average); 4. ACC (664,622; 3,357 average); and 5. Big East (712,785; 2,958 average).
