In 2007-08, it's "Texas Fans Make Us Proud" -- the sequel.
This sequel may be seen in the stadiums, the arenas, the pools, the fields and even on the pitch. It may be seen anywhere the fans of student-athletes from The University of Texas are found.
UT officials believe this sequel will be even better than the original.
A year ago, the Texas Exes brought together a large group from the UT campus to work on ways sportsmanship by fans could be raised to the highest level and then could influence other fans of schools in the Big 12 Conference to do same.
Ideally, as the initiative moves into Year 2, this sphere of influence only will grow.
Among the precepts are:
- Do unto others as you would have them do unto you by being a good ambassador for Texas and offer fans from visiting teams a warm welcome to Austin.
- Realize children are in your midst at the game and those children will learn their values from you. Please watch your language.
- Being a good fan is about passion -- so come early, be loud, stay late and wear burnt orange.
"As the name says," Men's Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds said, "our fans always have and always will make us proud both in Austin and anywhere our student-athletes compete. I appreciate the Texas Exes' commitment to such and their helping to make Texas the model of sportsmanship not only in the Big 12, but across the country."
