Tarell Brown earns 49ers' Herrion Award
09.04.2007 | Football
Following the San Francisco 49ers' Monday practice, head coach Mike Nolan named former Longhorn CB Tarell Brown the winner of this year's Thomas Herrion Award. Team owners Denise and John York established the award in 2005, which is presented each season to a rookie or first-year player that best represents the dream of Thomas Herrion.
The award goes to a player, like Thomas, who has taken advantage of every opportunity, turned it into a positive situation and made their dream turn into reality. Thomas was named the first recipient of the award and T Harvey Dahl was named the winner last season.
The 49ers' fifth-round draft pick, Brown had a solid training camp and a strong preseason, notching five tackles, two special teams tackle and one interception. He's also had to overcome adversity in his life, including the loss of both of his parents.
"I heard many good things about Thomas," Brown said. "I will do my best to represent what he stood for. I was very excited when I learned of the announcement this morning in the team meeting."
