TULSA, Okla. -- Texas junior Dimitar Kutrovsky and sophomore Ed Corrie scored opening-round singles victories, but the Longhorns were unable to stave off elimination from the main singles and doubles draws Thursday at the ITA All-American Championship, one of three national-championship events on the college tennis schedule.
Corrie (Harpendon, England) opened with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Graeme Kassutzki in the round of 64 but was eliminated by Ohio State's Steven Moneke in the following round, 7-5, 6-4. The seventh-seeded Kutrovsky (Sofia, Bulgaria) opened with a 7-5, 6-4 win over UCLA's Matt Brooklyn but suffered a 6-3, 6-3 defeat to Florida State's Clint Bowles in the round of 32. Sophomore Kellen Damico (Parker, Colo.) fell to Ohio State's Koniecko in the singles round of 64, 6-4, 7-5.
Corrie and Damico suffered an 8-6 defeat in their first match of the main doubles draw to Kentucky's Bruno Agostinelli and Brad Cox. Michigan's Jason Jung and Mike Sroczynski dealt Kutrovsky and Zavala a 9-8 defeat, and LSU's James Cluskey and Michael Venus defeated UT senior Miguel Reyes Varela and junior Olivier Sajous by a 9-8 count.
Texas will open play in the doubles consolation draw on Friday.
