No. 9 USC edges No. 4 Men's Tennis, 4-3

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 4 Texas (13-3) won the doubles point and scored singles wins from sophomore Dimitar Kutrovsky and senior Milan Mihailovic, but No. 9 USC (12-3) rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Longhorns Thursday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas opened the match by securing the doubles point. Sophomores Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala tallied an 8-5 win at third doubles over Andrew Piotrowski and Jaak Poldma, and the Longhorns clinched the point at second doubles when junior Miguel Reyes Varela and senior Luis Diaz Barriga scored an 8-5 win over Jason McNaughton and Gary Sacks.
Texas pushed its lead to 2-0 when Kutrovsky upset the Trojans' seventh-ranked Robert Farah, 6-4, 6-3. However, USC rallied with four singles wins to clinch the match, as Abdullah Magdas, Poldma, Kaes Van't Hof and Sacks posted wins at the sixth, third, second and fourth slots, respectively. Texas tacked on one more point when Mihailovic outlasted McNaughton at fifth singles, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Texas resumes competition on Friday, March 28 when it hosts Oklahoma State.
