Draft Day Q&A: Limas Sweed
04.26.2008 | Football
How does it feel now that you've been drafted, and by such a traditional team as the Steelers? It's something you wait for, and I'm happy now that it's come. I'm just ready to get in and go to work. The Steelers are a great team, and when I got the call, the coaches were telling me how much tradition they have up there. You always know Mean Joe Greene, and they're always in the playoffs, plus Casey Hampton is there. To be drafted by such a traditional football team is something really similar to Texas. I know the fans will be behind them, so it'll be a good thing. They have a great quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger, so I'm excited.
Do you know anything about the city of Pittsburgh? Have you ever been there? I can't say that I've been there, but I'm excited to see what it's like.
What was the phone call like with the Steelers? They asked me about injuries and if I was still injured. Then they asked if I would be able to report on a specific date, and I said yes. I'm ready to do it.
Did you have much contact with the Steelers in the draft process? Yeah, I met with them once. They just asked about my personal background, they asked some about my wrist, really just general questions.
You mentioned Casey Hampton, do you know him well? Yeah, I know him. I've talked to him a few times, and he's definitely a Longhorn all the way through. It will be good to have someone up there who knows what it's like to be from Texas. I'm looking forward to it.
Have you spoken to Coach Brown or Coach Kennedy? I sent them text messages and they sent me some saying congrats and thanks. I haven't really had time yet to talk to anyone on the phone. I've been with my family enjoying the moment.
What has your day been like at home with your family? It's just been crazy. Everything you work for your whole life has come to this point. I was just sitting back waiting to see what would happen, and it finally did. Today felt pretty long, but it's here, and I'm happy. I was glad to be with my family.
Have you thought about the actual moving process? I'm going to get with the staff and ask them about the living there. I'm just looking for a nice spot to live since I'm going to be there for a while. I just want to find a nice spot I'm comfortable with and go to work.
Any other thoughts on your day? I was just happy to get the phone call and be drafted. It's something I've wanted my whole life and I'm just glad it's here. I'm just thankful for everything and want to thank all of the coaches and my teammates and all of the fans at Texas.
