MANCHESTER, England -- Texas volunteer assistant women's swimming and diving coach Kirsty Coventry registered her second world record in two months Wednesday evening at the 2008 FINA World Short Course Championships.
Competing in a 25-meter course, Coventry captured the 400-meter individual medley in a new world-record time of 4:26.52, topping the previous global mark of 4:27.83 set by Yana Klochkova in 2002.
Coventry broke what had been one of the oldest world records in the books at the Missouri Grand Prix on Feb. 16, when she captured the 200-meter backstroke in 2:06.39, topping Krisztina Egerszegi's previous mark of 2:06.62 set in 1991.
Coventry won gold in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
