Summer update: Rashad Bobino
06.12.2008 | Football
What have you been up to with your month off? First of all, I graduated, so that was a big thing. Then, I went home for a bit because my cousin graduated. After that, I went straight to work. I've actually been working out for the whole month that we've had off, so I've really had no breaks. I stayed in Austin and worked out here.
How does it feel to officially be graduated? It feels great. It's really exciting to be done in four years. To have a chance to go to graduate school and further my education is a great opportunity for me. I hope to get my master's and put that to use in the future.
Are you looking forward to summer workouts? Oh, definitely. This is my last summer and this is where all of the work gets done. In the summer, you can either improve or you can go down to a slump. It's my last summer, so, of course, I want to improve.
How has it been seeing all of your teammates again? It's been really good to see everyone. During that month off, there have been only a couple of guys here. So when everyone came back, it brought a lot of energy back in the weight room and in the locker room, and it gets all of us back in the right mindset. The environment sets the tone for us.
Do you think the month off helps the players recover physically and mentally? I think the month off is actually really good for us. It gives everybody a chance to get away from football for a little bit and to just relax. It lets the guys take their minds somewhere else. Football is a year-round season, and if you don't have a break, it can make you go kind of crazy and make you get sick of the game. So that month off is really good.
What are your goals for the summer? This summer, like everyone else, I want to get stronger, faster and more explosive. I want to really work on my balance more, so I will be doing a lot of balance training and workouts. The goal this year is to just get back to the top.
What expectations do you have for yourself as well as the team? My expectations are very high. I felt like I didn't perform as well as I wanted to last year, so I have a point to prove. It adds a little extra chip on my shoulder this year. Team-wise, my expectations are high, too. I want us to be in that mix for a National Championship, so that is another extra chip on my shoulder and I can't wait to showcase our team on the field.
