No. 17 Women's Tennis tops Nebraska, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 17 Texas (10-4, 4-0 Big 12) took five of six singles matches and swept the doubles session to claim a 6-1 victory over Nebraska (13-3, 2-3) Saturday at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The match opened with the singles session due to the potential arrival of inclement weather throughout the afternoon. Sophomore Sarah Lancaster opened with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Maria Ring at fifth singles, and sophomore Vanja Corovic defeated the Huskers' Wiveca Swarting by a 6-3, 6-3 count at the second slot.
Sophomore Jane Pringle staked Texas to a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Ashley Finnegan at sixth singles before Nebraska got on the board with a three-set win at third singles. Freshman Caroline Larsson clinched the Texas victory with a 7-5, 7-6 win at fourth singles over Stephanie Evans before senior Courtney Zauft outlasted Imke Reimers in three sets at first singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
With the team victory in hand, Texas tallied victories at the second and third positions before finishing off the Huskers in a tiebreaker at the first slot. Sophomore Stephanie Davison teamed up with Larsson for an 8-2 win at second doubles over Swarting and Ring, and Zauft and freshman Abby Liu tallied an 8-4 win at third doubles over Evans and Finnegan.
Corovic and junior Marija Milic outlasted Reimers and Jana Albers at the first position, 8-7 (5).
Texas resumes competition on Friday, April 4 at Colorado.
