No. 2 Men's Tennis overpowers UC-Santa Barbara, 4-0

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 2 Texas (3-0) took the doubles point and rattled off three decisive singles victories to clinch a 4-0 win over UC-Santa Barbara Saturday in the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas advances to Sunday's championship match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend and will meet TCU, who defeated South Florida by a 4-1 count in Saturday's opening match. Sunday's winner claims a berth in the upcoming ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago.
UT sophomores Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico made short work of UCSB's Philip Therp and Scott Hohenstein at the first doubles slot, where the Longhorn duo posted an 8-1 win. Texas wrapped up the doubles point at second doubles, where juniors Josh Zavala and Dimitar Kutrovsky tallied an 8-4 win over Josh Finkelstein and Alex Konigsfeldt.
Damico staked Texas to a 2-0 lead when he finished off Konigsfeldt at second singles, 6-2, 6-0. Corrie followed suit with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the third position over Max Taylor, and senior Miguel Reyes Varela finished off the Texas victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Hohenstein at fourth singles. With the match's outcome in hand, the remaining matches were suspended.
Texas and TCU will do battle Sunday at 2 p.m. Central following the UCSB-South Florida match that gets underway at 11 a.m.
