AUSTIN, Texas -- The first two practices of Texas spring football will be open to the public and will take place on Friday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 28, at 9 a.m. at Denius Fields (corner of 26th Street and Red River).
The practices are subject to time change or closure, and if practice moves inside The Bubble at any point, space limitations prevent the workout from remaining open. Fans are encouraged to park at the Manor Garage (PG 5) on the corner of Dedman and Littlefield Drives.
In addition to the first two open sessions, the Spring Jamboree scrimmage will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and will once again be presented by Time Warner Cable. The Fan Fest portion of the Spring Jamboree will take place prior to the scrimmage in the north end of the stadium. A schedule for that event will be posted on Mack Brown-TexasFootball.com in the coming weeks.
The Longhorns enter 2009 following a successful 2008 campaign in which they finished ranked No. 3 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the Associated Press Poll. It was the third time in the last five years Texas has finished in the Top Five.
Texas finished the season 12-1, capped by a 24-21 win over No. 10 Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. It was UT's third BCS bowl win in the last five years and also its fifth consecutive bowl win overall in five years, a UT record and a streak currently matched nationally by only Utah.
It is also just the second time in school history the Longhorns have won at least 12 games after finishing 13-0 and winning the National Championship in 2005. Texas is the only school in the nation to win at least 10 games in each of the last eight years, which is the second longest streak in NCAA history.
