Former Longhorns S Michael Griffin of the Tennessee Titans and DT Shaun Rogers of the Cleveland Browns participated in the 2009 NFL Pro Bowl on Sunday for the AFC, however the AFC fell to the NFC, 30-21.
Former Texas OG Leonard Davis was elected to the NFC team, however he did not participate due to an injury.
The AFC jumped out to a 14-3 lead before the NFC finished on a 27-7 run. Griffin tallied three tackles, including one special teams tackle, and had one kickoff return that was a lateral, and Rogers recorded one tackle.
This marks the third time in the last four years Texas has had three former players elected to the Pro Bowl. It also gives Texas eight consecutive years with at least one former player and four straight years with at least two players.
It was second straight time Davis was elected to the Pro Bowl, while Griffin made his first trip and Rogers made his third, including 2005 and 2006. Last season, DT Casey Hampton joined Davis. In 2007, Hampton, WR Roy Williams and QB Vince Young participated, while in 2006, Rogers, Hampton and CB Nathan Vasher were selected.
This season, Griffin tied for second in the NFL with a team-leading seven interceptions. He also recorded 81 tackles and one sack and was a key part of the NFL's second-ranked scoring defense (14.6 ppg) in the regular season. In addition, he finished second on the team with 17 special teams tackles and third in passes defended with 12.
Rogers led the Browns with four and a half sacks to go along with 76 tackles, four passes defended and two blocked kicks. He started all 16 games at nose tackle since being acquired in a trade with the Lions in March.
Davis started all 16 games in his second season for the Dallas Cowboys. For his career, he has started all 123 regular season games in which he has played. Davis spent 2001-06 with the Arizona Cardinals.
