Women's Tennis overpowers Iowa State, 6-1

AMES, Iowa -- Texas (9-5, 5-0 Big 12) took the doubles point and added five singles victories in a 6-1 victory over Iowa State Friday afternoon at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
The Longhorns opened the match with victories at the first and second doubles positions to clinch the doubles point. Freshman Krista Damico and senior Marija Milic defeated the Cyclones' Erin Karonis and Kara Hickey by a 9-7 count at the first slot. UT junior Stephanie Davison teamed up with sophomore Caroline Larsson for an 8-2 win at the second slot over Iowa State's Maria Fernanda Macedo and Christine Chartier to nail down the doubles point.
Damico went on to post a 6-4, 6-3 win over Macedo at the second slot, and sophomore Maggie Mello dealt ISU's Tessa Lang a 6-1, 7-5 defeat at the third slot. Sophomore Amanda Craddock defeated Chartier by a 6-3, 6-1 count at fourth singles, and junior Sarah Lancaster was victorious at fifth singles, winning by a 7-6 (4), 6-1 count over Liza Wischer. Davison tacked on a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hickey at sixth singles.
Texas resumes Big 12 play on Saturday when it visits Nebraska. The match is set for an 11 a.m. Central start in Lincoln.
