AUSTIN, Texas -- Since opening our doors 36 years ago, University of Texas Women's Athletics has grown and graduated a generation of Longhorns who have honored the burnt orange in competition and in life.
No other school can claim more than our 40 Big 12 Conference championships. All told, we've won 26 national championships in seven sports, and since 1987, we have celebrated 12 female student-athletes who have earned prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships.
Our Women's Basketball team hosts Texas Tech on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m., and on that day, we will also recognize National Girl and Women in Sport Day. UT Athletics will host the "UT and ME" expo in an effort to continue our legacy of empowering young girls and women through sport.
Please join us throughout the day for these special events, including a halftime presentation to honor our Women's Basketball Letterwinners. Jamie Carey, UT's single-season record holder for 3-pointers made and a recipient of a Big 12 Conference Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship, will be on hand, along with many others.
The day's events will include:
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.: UT and ME Expo
- Free UT and ME basketball backpacks will be distributed to the first 1,000 girls (18 and under; first-come, first served;).
- Central Texas and campus organizations catering to girls will fill the concourse of the Frank Erwin Center to distribute information and prizes, host special activities, and more!
- Photo opportunities with a variety of Women's Athletics trophies, medals and special memorabilia.
1 p.m.: Texas Women's Basketball vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders
- Join the Longhorn Band, Texas Cheer and Pom dance team and our mascot Hook 'Em, as the Texas Longhorns take on longtime rival, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders.
- At halftime the T-Association will honor Women's Basketball Letterwinners in a special presentation.
3 p.m.: Texas Rewind
- Texas Women's Basketball will host a free Q&A session with members of the team and coaching staff in the Lone Star Room following the conclusion of the game.
Fans must have a game ticket to participate in the expo.
