TEXAS QUOTES
Head Coach Gail Goestenkors
Opening statement: I'm just proud of the team. Like I said early on, I think this was our most difficult preseason, pre-conference schedule that I've ever had in 18 years now of coaching. I feel like the team really responded well. I feel like we've really learned a lot through these games, and I feel like we're starting to find our stride and hit a rhythm, so I'm just proud of the team. Again, sometimes it's hard to focus when you get a big lead early, and I thought we lost our focus at times in this game and it showed in some of our turnovers. But overall I'm pleased with our play and where we are right now heading into the Big 12.
On Kathleen Nash's 3-point shooting: Since she's come here, she's been a great 3-point shooter. I think it was even more of an asset early on her freshman year because really other than Erika, and Erika sat out her first year, she was our only 3-point shooter. Now I think it's probably a little easier on her because she knows she has other great shooters around her. She probably doesn't feel the pressure that she has to hit those three's, and we're able to spread the defense out. I think it's made it easier on her teammates to find her and for her to get some open looks as well.
F Kathleen Nash
On shooting such a high percentage from 3-point range: I think this year just having more of an inside presence and it seems like every person on our team can shoot the three, so I've found myself a lot more wide open this year. I know it's going to get tougher once we get to the Big 12, but I think it's really just my teammates -- they're great at finding me, and teams have a hard time covering our 3-point shooters.
G Erika Arriaran
On having a big inside presence and getting easier shots: Definitely, I think we both complement each other, the guards complement the posts, and the posts complement us. Defensively, a lot of teams are forced now to get drawn in because we have such a presence down low, and that's getting a lot of the guards a lot more open shots.
