Women's Cross Country places seven on 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Teams

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Women's Cross Country team landed seven student-athletes on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Teams, the league announced.
The Longhorns had five harriers receive First Team honors (3.20-plus GPA). Senior Megan Vasquez (Applied Movement Science) and juniors Mia Behm (Advertising) and Ginny Simon (Applied Learning and Development) were named to the First Team for the second straight year, while junior Julie Amthor (Honors Biology) and sophomore Laleh Mojtabaeezamani (Government) received the honors for the first time.
Texas also had two runners named to Second Team Academic All-Big 12 (3.00-3.19 GPA) in seniors Allison Mendez (Natural Sciences/Pre-Med) and Jena Cuellar (Journalism).
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of the team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Longhorns head to Stillwater, Okla. this Saturday, Oct. 30, for the 2010 Big 12 Cross Country Championship hosted by Oklahoma State.
