Women's Cross Country team headed to NCAA Championships

WACO, Texas -- The Texas Women's Cross Country team placed four runners in the top 10 at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship en route to a 46-point team victory and an automatic team qualification for the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships. It marks the first time since 2003 that the Longhorns will appear as a team at the NCAA Championships after individually qualifying two runners in 2009.
All five scorers for Texas posted 6K career best times and earned All-Region honors by finishing in the top 25. Junior Mia Behm led Texas with a second place overall finish in 20:20.5. Freshman Marielle Hall (fifth) and junior Julie Amthor (sixth) posted times of 20:40.8 and 20:43.7, respectively. Freshman Sara Sutherland clocked a 20:49.7, crossing the finish line in ninth. Sophomore Laleh Mojtabaeezamani rounded out scoring for the Longhorns finishing 25th with a time of 21:21.4.
Freshman Megan Siebert (21:22.7) placed 27th and senior Allison Mendez (21:38.1) finished in 38th.
The NCAA Championship race will take place in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22. It will be run on the same 6K course as the 2010 ISU Pre-Nationals Invitational, where the Longhorns placed fifth out of 38 teams.
