TEXAS QUOTES
Head Coach Gail Goestenkors
Opening statement: I'm very pleased overall with the way we played. I give credit to Texas Tech. They fought. They're undermanned right now, but they played hard. It was a battle the entire game, because they did battle. I give a lot of credit to Coach Curry for what she did. I told her before the game, I said, "I'm proud of you. You're sticking to your guns. You're doing things the right way." One thing I noticed through all the tape I was watching is her team plays so hard. I told my team I said, "You're going to be in for a battle and for a war." We were. I'm proud of the way we responded, especially in the second half. I felt that we played with greater energy and intensity in the second half. And we're on to the next game. It just never ends.
On the team's shooting today: I was really happy with the team. We hadn't been shooting the ball that well from the three. We've been shooting, but not as well as we had been. I felt like today Brittainey [Raven] and Kat [Nash] in particular, but I think we got threes from five different players. When you've got so many different players hitting from the outside it makes it difficult to defend.
G Brittainey Raven
On the team's shooting today: Like Coach said, most of our guards can shoot the three consistently. I think today my teammates did a great job of finding our open three-point shooters. With our team, if you give us time to set up and get the ball right, we're going to hit. We've been working on that in practice every day. We've been getting extra shooting in. I think it's paid off in the last two games.
On if the team is playing its best basketball of the season: Yes. About a month ago we looked like a totally different team. I think every day in practice we've been doing our best to work hard, listen to everything coach is saying, put in extra work. Game after game, I think we've improved. There's some games like the Nebraska game, I think it was close, but we played hard. From then on I think we just continued to improve.
G Kat Nash
On the difference in the team from earlier in the season: I think we're just gelling a lot more. Today we made them pay for being in a 2-3 zone. Just learning to adjust to what the other team is doing and play our hardest on defense.
On the team's confidence in shooting three-pointers: Coach always tells us to create for each other, and I think that's what we did a great job of doing today. When your teammate drives and gets you open, you want to make that shot. I think we feel kind of pressure on each other to make them.
TEXAS TECH QUOTES
Head Coach Kristy Curry
On how they played today: I thought we really competed today. We played with a lot of energy. Obviously we are undermanned and undersized, but I don't fault our effort. I just credit Texas- those are a couple high school All-Americans that are very talented and about 4 inches taller than us.
On Chynna Brown: She's playing her best basketball game. I try to remind her, as well as the rest of them, that they have played very well in this building. Chynna did a great job and was off to her best start with 8 points and 4 rebounds, which is great to see. She's got a slight concussion and a slight cut over the eye which we had to get sewn up. I haven't had a talk with her about Wednesday, but she's tough, so I expect that if she can play, we hope that she is back. We'll let the doctors determine that.
On how Texas is different than the last time: They are playing their best basketball right now. When you go back and watch the film of them against Baylor and Oklahoma, their balance is incredible right now and they are playing really high level. You have to credit Coach Goestenkors and credit those kids. They are shooting the ball extremely well and that's been contagious at all spots.
On defending Texas: I think we did a better job in the second half. Obviously they had eight 3-pointers at half time and only three in the second half, so we did a good job of making that adjustment. So again, you just have to credit them on a day when they shoot the ball really well. I think we had 13 more shots than Texas- 63 to their 50. We just missed a lot of shots and when you do that on the road, it doesn't make for a good combination when you're not shooting very well and they are.
F Jordan Barncastle
On her opportunity to be a leader: Obviously, this was a great opportunity for all of the posts. Being short-handed, we know that we are going to play regardless. It's definitely an opportunity for us to step up and play different roles than we are used to. I think it is going to take a little adjusting for everyone and it's just something that we all need to do.
F Ashlee Roberson
On how double overtime game affected this game: I don't think it affected this game at all. We still competed well when we lost in double overtime. We just haven't finished our game in the way we wanted to and gotten the outcome that we wanted to. But overall, I don't think that affects us at all. We are still competing no matter what. We have to give credit to every team we play, we just have to player harder.
