AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 20 Texas (12-4, 7-1 Big 12) swept the singles matches and added on a pair of doubles wins in a 7-0 win over Iowa State (9-12, 2-7 Big 12) Saturday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The match was delayed over three hours due to rain, and the two teams elected to play the singles session first given the lingering threat of additional inclement weather. Senior Sarah Lancaster put the Horns on the board at third singles with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 win over Tessa Lang. UT assumed a 2-0 lead at sixth singles, where junior Abby Liu posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Liza Wischer. It marked Liu's second dual-match win in as many outings this season.
Junior Maggie Mello staked the Horns to a 3-0 lead when she finished off Jenna Langhorst by a 6-3, 6-3 count at fourth singles. Sophomore Krista Damico notched the clinching point for the Longhorns at second singles, where she dealt Maria Fernanda Macedo a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 defeat.
Senior Vanja Corovic rallied for a three-set victory at first singles over Erin Karonis at first singles, and junior Caroline Larsson finished off the Texas singles sweep with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 win over Marie-Christine Chartier at fifth singles.
Lancaster and Mello opened the doubles session with an 8-2 win over the Cyclones' Karonis and Langhorst at second doubles. The Cyclones picked up a win at first doubles, but, in their second dual-match together at third doubles, UT's Maya Zein-El-Abdin and Liu teamed up for an 8-6 win over Alyssa Palen and Wischer to nail down the doubles point for the Longhorns.
Texas will visit College Station to take on Texas A&M on Tuesday night for the State Farm Lone Star Showdown. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. Central at A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center.

POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas head coach Patty Fendick-McCain
On the weekend matches against Iowa State and Nebraska: These are the kinds of matches that build character. These were not our standard matches, with the weather issues and not knowing if or when you're playing the match, and when you play singles first. The weather issues threw a wrench into things, but I was pleased with how this group responded.
On today's doubles win from Maya Zein-El-Abdin and Abby Liu: That was great to see. They train for this all year long, and it was nice to see them have a chance to get out there and do what we know they are capable of doing. I'm glad they got a chance to play and earn the doubles point for us. Maya has been playing some super tennis, and to see her fight through her nerves and help nail that match down for us was fantastic.
On Iowa State and UT's next opponent, Texas A&M: I give my kudos to Iowa State. It is a program that has made great progress since Armando Espinosa took over. Iowa State gave us a great battle, and it was just what we needed to get ready for Texas A&M. The Aggies have been playing some great tennis, and it should be a great match.
