Women's Tennis tops Oklahoma State, 5-2

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Texas (8-4, 4-1 Big 12) swept the doubles session and added four singles wins on its way to a 5-2 victory over host Oklahoma State (8-5, 2-3 Big 12) Friday afternoon at OSU's DeBois Tennis Complex.
Texas assumed a 1-0 lead with a formidable effort in the doubles session. UT scored its first win at third doubles, where senior Sarah Lancaster and junior Caroline Larsson posted an 8-4 win over OSU's Alisa Buslaieva and Alexandra Cristello. The Longhorns clinched the doubles point at the first slot, where UT's 47th-ranked tandem of Vanja Corovic and Aeriel Ellis held off the Cowgirls' Sasha Belova and Nataliya Shatkovskaya, 9-7. The Horns finished off the sweep at second doubles, where junior Amanda Craddock and sophomore Krista Damico dealt Sarah Meghoufel and Malika Rose an 8-5 defeat.
UT junior Maggie Mello staked the Horns to a 2-0 lead at sixth singles after posting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Oklahoma State's Cristello, 6-2, 6-1. OSU cut the deficit to 2-1 with a straight-set win at second singles, but the Longhorns would clinch the team victory behind consecutive wins at the fifth and first singles slots.
Lancaster notched a 6-3, 6-1 win over OSU's Rose at fifth singles to give UT a 3-1 lead, and Ellis nailed down the win for Texas at first singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (7) win over OSU's Buslaieva. Damico tacked on to the Texas lead after outlasting OSU's Belova in a third-set match tiebreak. The match's final point came courtesy of OSU's Meghoufel, who edged UT's Larsson in a third-set match tiebreak.
Texas resumes Big 12 Conference play on Saturday when it visits Oklahoma (12-2, 3-1 Big 12). First serve is set for 11 a.m. Central at OU's Headington Family Tennis Center.
