BOULDER, Colo. -- No. 19 Texas (15-4, 10-1 Big 12) relinquished the doubles point but responded by winning five of six singles matches, as the Longhorns dealt Colorado (10-12, 3-8 Big 12) a 5-2 defeat in the regular-season finale Sunday afternoon at CU's South Campus Courts.
Texas nails down the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye at this week's Big 12 Championships in Austin. The four-day event opens on Thursday, April 29 with four first-round matches at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. As the No. 2 seed, Texas will play in Friday's quarterfinals against the winner of Thursday's match pitting the seventh seed against the 10th seed. The Big 12 Conference will release the tournament draw later this evening.
Colorado assumed a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point, but the Longhorns quickly turned the match in their favor in singles play. Senior Sarah Lancaster put Texas on the board at fifth singles, as she moved her career Big 12 singles record to 38-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ania Anuszkiewicz. UT junior Caroline Larsson put the Horns on top at sixth singles, where she posted an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Erin Sanders.
