No. 3 Men's Tennis opens NCAA Championships with 4-0 win over UTSA

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 3 Texas (26-2) quickly claimed the doubles point and picked up straight-set singles wins from senior Dimitar Kutrovsky, sophomore Jean Andersen and junior Ed Corrie in a 4-0 win over UTSA (13-10) Friday in round one of the NCAA Championships.
The Longhorns advance to Saturday's round-of-32 match in Austin where they will meet Minnesota, who knocked off Arizona by a 4-1 count in the other first-round match. The match is set for a 12:30 p.m. Central start at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas and UTSA waited out a rain delay that spanned five hours and 30 minutes before kicking off their match at 6:30 p.m. The Longhorns wasted little time getting on the board, as UT registered a pair of doubles wins to pick up the doubles point.
Andersen teamed up with freshman Vasko Mladenov to knock off UTSA's Tyler Brown and Max Stratmann by an 8-1 count at third doubles. Kutrovsky and senior Josh Zavala landed the clinching point at first doubles, where they defeated the Roadrunners' Rodrigo Morgado and Pedro Zanotelli, 8-4.
With six match officials on site to handle two matches being played simultaneously, Texas and UTSA could only contest three singles matches at a time. Kutrovsky got off the court early at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brown, and Andersen followed with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win at third singles over Martin Ayala. Corrie finished off the Texas win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Morgado at third singles.

"It was a tough day with weather issues we had today, but our guys handled everything well, as I thought they would. It's always good to get the first round out of the way. UTSA was not going to give us anything, and we knew we would have to come out and earn the wins at each position. We're pleased to move on to the second round tomorrow."
