Hey Longhorns fans,
On Monday we had a great opportunity to see President Obama speak at Gregory Gym on campus. It worked out perfectly because it was during our break, so we didn't miss any practice or meetings, so it was pretty incredible we could just walk right up the hill to hear the President. I don't think there are many campuses around the country where you have a chance like that.
The University of Texas is a special place when you can have things like that happen. I'm really appreciative of what President Powers and DeLoss Dodds and the administration have done to give us opportunities like that. To see the President of the United States speak at our school is really special.
Once our coaches told us about the opportunity, everyone had a choice, and there were a lot of guys who just wanted to see the President and hear what he had to say. He focused on higher education, which is really important in our society right now, especially at a place like UT.
It doesn't matter what political affiliation you are, I think it's important to respect the office, and that's what the guys on the team did. We didn't talk about things like being Democrat or Republican, we were just out there supporting the President, because it's the toughest job in the world and he serves an incredible role for our country.
It was an amazing scene, and I had a lot of fun because I had never seen anything like that before. I actually had seen him speak before he was President in 2006 at Northwestern's graduation, because my sister was graduating. It was funny because I thought it was a great speech, and a couple of years later, he's the President.
All in all, it was a great experience and he even gave us a little shout out and wished us luck for the season, so it was pretty special day.
