POSTGAME NOTES
TEAM
- Improved to 87-19 in season openers, including 12-2 in openers under Rick Barnes
- Won its 10th consecutive season opener, including the ninth in a row by a margin of 21 points or more
- Has outscored opponents by an average of 33.3 points over the last 10 season openers
- Improved to 91-15 in home openers, including a 30-5 mark since moving to the Erwin Center
- Improved to 92-9 (.911) at the Erwin Center in the last six seasons [dating back to the start of the 2005-06 season] and 182-24 (.883) at the Erwin Center under Rick Barnes
- Jonathan Holmes, Myck Kabongo and Julien Lewis became the 26th, 27th and 28th players in UT history to start a season opener as a freshman. It tied the school record for most freshman starters in a season opener. It happened previously in 2006-07 (D.J. Augustin, Kevin Durant and Damion James) and 1979-80 (Fred Carson, LaSalle Thompson and George Turner).
- Twelve players under Rick Barnes now have started a season opener as a freshman.
- Texas wins its first ever meeting against Boston University and improves to 2-0 against America East Conference opponents. Rick Barnes improves to 2-0 against the Terriers after posting a victory over Boston as the coach at Providence.
- UT led 31-21 at the half and opened the second half on a 7-0 run; UT held a 26-21 first-half lead before running off 12 unanswered points in a four-and-a-half minute span from late in the first half (3:00) to early in the second half (18:31)
- All six freshmen made an appearance
- Texas dished out 23 assists and registered only 10 turnovers (2.30 ratio); Boston registered only five assists to go with 24 turnovers (.208 ratio)
- Made his first appearance as a Longhorn, notched four points and three rebounds
- Made his first start since his freshman season (March 10, 2010 at Baylor) and the 10th of his career.
- Reached double figures in scoring for the 34th time in his career
- Set new career highs with 10 made field goals and eight assists and tied his career high of 28 points
- Scored 20 points or better for the ninth time in his career
- His missed free throw in the first half broke his streak of 28 consecutive free throws made.
- Returned after redshirting last season, made his first appearance since March 10, 2010 at Baylor
- His bucket with 13:58 remaining in the second half marked his first points since Feb. 20, 2010 at Texas Tech
- Posted a career-high three blocks
- Made his first collegiate start
- His seven assists marked the most by a freshman in a season opener since D.J. Augustin in 2006 (also had seven)
- Made his first collegiate start, totaled 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting
- His 18 points were the most for a freshman in a season opener since Kevin Durant recorded 20 points in 2006
- Made his first collegiate start, totaled seven points and two rebounds
- Made his first appearance as a Longhorn, scored six points and added two assists and one rebound
- Made his first collegiate start in his 106th career game
- Notched a career-high five blocks and a career-best 27 minutes
