POST GAME QUOTES
TEXAS COACH QUOTES
Head Coach Rick Barnes
On the defensive plan:I really thought we picked a role defensively, because we knew they would run more of a spread game on us. I think that we did a really good job not letting them come down and deflate us early. Offensively, if they would have stayed man, we would have settled down quicker. I felt as if that was a really good move on their part, to go to zone early.
On J'Covan Brown: He is smart. He reads defenses well. He plays at a really good pace. I feel like he really settled us down. He is crafty and very cerebral. He knows how to get open and how to set his man up as well.
On getting off to a good start: In our two scrimmages, we got absolutely nothing done in the first two minutes. We can adjust (our mindset) when we need to, and you could see that at shoot-around today. They were excited about getting to play.
TEXAS PLAYER QUOTES
JUNIOR GUARD J'Covan Brown
On tying his career high in points: My teammates did a great job out there to find me. I didn't know I had that many assists, too. Overall, it was a really good game.
On building the lead in the second half: We used our speed to help us rebound. That helped our lead to grow. We will look at the film to see how we can get even better.
On how this year's team is different: Last year, we were bigger and stronger, but this year we are hyper we will use our speed to get us over the hump. You have to play as a team. We have to keep fighting as a unit.
FRESHMAN GUARD Myck Kabongo
On his debut: I was so excited I couldn't sleep. I stayed up until probably 3 a.m. It was exciting. It was my first college game and I was just taking strides to get better. For the performance, I grade it an "A" because we got a win. Defensively we did a great job today. We took care of it and forced them to take bad shots.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY COACH QUOTES
Head Coach Joe Jones
Opening Statement:I'd say their freshmen are as good as advertised. Obviously [J'Covan] Brown played terrific tonight. He was lights out once he got it going. He did a great job running the offense and making plays and making shots. I thought their length and speed and quickness really gave us trouble. We had 24 turnovers. They really pressured our bigs [post players] on the perimeter and got into us a little bit of trouble. My hat goes off to Coach (Rick) Barnes. He's a great coach and he's been a great coach for a long time. He has his guys ready to play.
On whether it was difficult to prepare for tonight's game: You know, it's hard in these kinds of games at the beginning of the year. You don't really know what to expect, especially for a team that really only returned one guy that scored in double figures. So [it was difficult] to kind of figure out what they were going to run and how guys were going to hurt you. I thought they shot, at times, better than I thought [they would]. At one point, it looked like they didn't miss for a while. There was like a 30-8 run. So, it was probably about Texas shooting the ball better and just their speed and quickness overall.
