Acho selected to the 2011 AP All-America team

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Longhorns senior linebacker Emmanuel Acho was named third-team All-America by The Associated Press, the news outlet has announced. The team was selected by a panel of 16 AP poll voters.
A Lott Trophy finalist, Acho was also selected first-team All-Big 12 by the conference's coaches and first-team AP All-Big 12 for the 2011 season.
Acho has played in 47 career games (25 starts) and has registered 269 tackles (153 solo), eight sacks, 40 TFL, two INT (one TD return), 12 PBU, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 23 quarterback pressures. In 2011, he leads the Longhorns with 122 tackles (59 solo) and has three sacks, 18 TFL, one forced fumble, five PBU and 15 quarterback pressures.


The senior from Dallas, was one of the leaders of a stout Texas Longhorns defense that ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 in total defense (315 ypg), pass defense (211 ypg) and rushing defense (103 ypg). Texas' rush defense (11th) and total defense (14th) both rank in the top 15 nationally.
Acho graduated in December, 2011, with a degree in sports management and a 3.42 GPA. A three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection, Acho was also named a 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-District 7 team member and is a six-time member of the UT Athletics Director's Honor Roll. Last year, Acho was honored with the Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholarship Award, which is a national award that recognizes minority student-athletes who are committed to both education and athletics.
This season, Acho has also been named a member of the 2011 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, was a Campbell Trophy semifinalist and is a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
