AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Chassidy Fussell scored 19 points and No. 22 Texas opened the game with 19 consecutive points en route to a 91-38 victory over Grambling State on Tuesday night.
The Longhorns (9-2) held the Tigers without a field goal over the first 5:36, led by 30 at halftime and built the margin to 55 in the closing minutes before finishing with their largest margin of victory this season.
Fussell was 3 for 7 on 3-pointers and Texas made a season-high nine from behind the arc. Ashleigh Fontenette added 14 points and 10 assists for the Longhorns. Ashley Gayle and Chelsea Bass each had 11 points, and Cokie Reed scored 10.
Savannah Carter scored 12 points to lead Grambling State (4-5).
The Longhorns caused 15 turnovers and Gayle, fourth in the nation with 4.2 blocks per game, recorded two for Texas.

Opening Statement: I'm really pleased with the way we played tonight. I thought we had really good focus and energy to start the game. We had a little low but we finished the half very strongly. In the second half I was a little concerned because sometimes when you have a big lead you lose your focus, but I thought we had great focus again. It was a great way for our team to go home for the Christmas break. Everybody played, everybody scored, everybody got a rebound. It was a good day for the Longhorns.
On playing with such a lead: Sometimes it's tough but I think this teamreally wanted to have a good game before they went home for Christmas. In this instance I think everyone was focused and wanted to feel good going home for Christmas.
On having concerns with Fussell's protective face mask: I was concerned. We talked about it before the game and wondered if it was going to affect her game at all. I actually called the first play of the game to go to Chassidy for a shot because I wanted to see what it was going to look like. She hit the first three three-pointers and it was all right. If she wasn't hitting her shots or if she didn't feel comfortable she probably would have taken it off.

On wearing the protective face mask: I was worried people were going to laugh. My teammates were laughing at me. Coach Hughey said that I needed to shoot with it but I felt that a shooter can shoot with anything and I just came out with it and it worked out.
On getting comfortable: This is the first day I've had it. It's my good luck charm, but I'm going to put it up and never pull it out again. My nose isn't broken. Hopefully my nose will be fixed before I come back.

On improvements over the last two season: I realized exactly what my role was and just tried to focus on that. With more of the freshman coming in and taking the post positions, it kind of made it easier for me to focus on rebounds and finishing. I really just focus on playing the four and five positions.
On shot improvements: No, I just decided to start shooting.
On joking with Fussell about the protective face mask: Not only does it look really awkward but she gets those red dots on her forehead, so yeah we made a little fun of her.
On keeping focus in a lopsided game: It's tough. It's tough because we seemed to hit a little plateau but we realized we needed to bring energy, especially the people coming off the bench. I tried to just stay focused and bring the energy.
