AUSTIN, Texas -- Fifteen members of the Texas Longhorns football team were named All-Big 12, the conference office has announced today. Freshman CB Quandre Diggs was selected as the conference's Defensive Freshman of the Year, and Texas placed four players on the first team and four on the second team. Selections are made by the league's 10 head coaches who are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Senior RB Fozzy Whittaker was selected All-Big 12 first team offense as a kickoff/punt returner, and senior LB Emmanuel Acho, junior DE Alex Okafor and junior S Kenny Vaccaro were selected as members of the All-Big 12 first team defense. Okafor was one of only five unanimous selections in this year's voting.
Diggs, who was also named All-Big 12 second team defense, is the fifth Texas player to earn top freshman defensive honors joining DE Brian Orakpo (2005), DT Rodrique Wright (2002), LB Derrick Johnson (2001) and DE Cory Redding (1999.)
Selected to the All-Big 12 second team defense along with Diggs were senior DT Kheeston Randall, senior LB Keenan Robinson and sophomore DE Jackson Jeffcoat.
2011 All-Big 12 honorable mention selections went to: sophomore CB Carrington Byndom, senior S Blake Gideon, senior RB Cody Johnson, freshman WR Jaxon Shipley, senior OL David Snow, senior PK/P Justin Tucker, junior S Kenny Vaccaro (Defensive PoY), sophomore OL Mason Walters, and senior RB Fozzy Whittaker (Special Teams PoY).
