AUSTIN, Texas - Texas sophomore divers Shelby Cullinan and Maren Taylor placed first and second, respectively in the platform diving event Sunday afternoon at the NCAA Zone 'D' Diving Meet and qualified to compete at this week's NCAA Championships in Austin.
With only three of the 11 NCAA Championships berths remaining from Zone 'D', Cullinan and Taylor needed to secure top-three finishes in the platform event to guarantee their berths to compete at the NCAA Championships, and they delivered. Cullinan claimed the event with 593.05 points, while Taylor placed second with 576.05 points. Houston's Julia Lonnegren landed the 11th and final qualifying spot for the NCAA Championships by taking third with 565.70 points.
Texas sophomore Diana Wilcox placed sixth in the platform event with 506.45 points, and sophomore Samantha Holland took ninth place with 483.85 points.
The 11 qualifiers from Zone 'D' will advance to the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships to be contested March 17-19 at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
