AUSTIN, Texas - No. 22 Texas (8-4, 3-0 Big 12) took two of three doubles matches claimed five of six singles matches on its way to a 6-1 victory over Colorado Sunday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The Longhorns jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles matches. Juliana Gajic and Maggie Mello opened with an 8-2 win over Kristina Barber and Abbie Probert at third doubles, and after Colorado closed out a win at first doubles, UT's Krista Damico and Aeriel Ellis clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over CU's Carla Manzi-Tenorio and Winde Janssens at second doubles.
Texas extended its lead to 2-0 when Damico dealt CU's Probert a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at second singles. The Horns opened up a 3-0 lead at fifth singles when Caroline Larsson finished off Ania Anuskiewicz by a 6-1, 6-1 count. Texas freshman Cierra Gaytan-Leach closed out the win for the Horns with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kristina Barber at sixth singles.
UT's Ellis pushed the lead to 5-0 after dealing CU's Kristina Schleich a 6-0, 6-3 defeat at first singles. Colorado got on the board with a three-set win at fourth singles before Texas closed out the match with a win at third singles, where Mello finished off CU's Manzi-Tenorio, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8).
Texas resumes conference play on Friday, March 25 when it visits Kansas State.
