No. 24 Women's Tennis falls to No. 9 Northwestern, 7-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 9 Northwestern (7-5) took two of three doubles matches and won all six singles matches in a 7-0 win over No. 24 Texas (4-4) Saturday afternoon indoors at Northwestern's Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats won matches at the third and first doubles slots before the Horns took the win at second doubles. At the third slot, Northwestern's Kate Turvy and Belinda Niu opened with an 8-1 win over UT seniors Caroline Larsson and Maggie Mello. The Wildcats' eighth-ranked duo of Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton clinched the doubles point at first doubles with an 8-4 win over UT's 51st-ranked tandem of Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Amanda Craddock. Texas' Aeriel Ellis and Krista Damico concluded the doubles session at second doubles and posted an 8-7 (2) win over Northwestern's Maria Mosolova and Elena Chernyakova.
NU's Turvy extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over UT's Mello at third singles, and the lead pushed to 3-0 at sixth singles, where the Wildcats' Hamilton posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over UT senior Caroline Larsson. Northwestern's 25th-ranked Maria Mosolova clinched the match at first singles, where she outlasted UT's 16th-ranked Ellis, 7-5, 7-6.
NU's Niu staked the Wildcats to a 5-0 lead after defeating UT's Damico by a 6-4, 6-3 count at second singles. Texas' Craddock took the first set off of NU's Mushrefova at fourth singles, but Mushrefova took the next two sets, 7-6, 6-2 to push the Northwestern lead to 6-0.
After dropping her first set to Stacey Lee at fifth singles, UT freshman Juliana Gajic prolonged the match by capturing the second set, 6-3. Lee, however, took the final set by a 6-3 count to preserve the 7-0 victory.
Texas resumes its stint in the Midwest on Sunday when it takes on host Illinois at noon Central at the Atkins Tennis Center.
