No. 23 Women's Tennis suffers 4-3 defeat at No. 45 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 23 Texas (10-5, 5-1 Big 12) earned singles wins from Krista Damico, Amanda Craddock and Maggie Mello, but No. 45 Texas Tech (14-4, 4-1 Big 12) posted a 4-3 victory over the Longhorns Friday afternoon at Tech's McLeod Tennis Center.
The doubles session featured tight competition throughout the three matches, and the Red Raiders secured victories at the second and first positions, respectively, to collect the doubles point. Texas picked up its lone win at third doubles, where Juliana Gajic and Mello teamed up for an 8-6 win over Haley Fournier and Elizabeth Ullathorne.
Damico put the Horns on the board at second singles when she dealt Samantha Adams a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. Tech assumed a 2-1 lead at sixth singles, where Nikki Sanders registered a 6-1, 6-4 win over UT senior Caroline Larsson. Texas Tech pushed its lead to 3-1 when Ullathorne dealt Texas' Ellis a 6-3, 6-4 defeat at first singles, and the Red Raiders closed out the victory at fifth singles when Fournier held on for a 6-2, 7-5 victory over UT's Gajic.
The Longhorns tacked on two singles wins to close the final margin to 4-3. UT's Craddock closed out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Kelsy Garland at fourth singles, and Mello defeated Caroline Starck by a 6-4, 6-4 count at third singles.
Texas concludes its road swing on Sunday when it visits Baylor. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Central at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco. Live scoring will be available at BaylorBears.com.
