OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Former University of Texas star and current Oklahoma City swingman Kevin Durant has captured the NBA scoring title for the second consecutive season. Durant finished the regular season with a scoring average of 27.7 points per game, ahead of runner-up LeBron James (26.7 ppg) and Carmelo Anthony (25.6 ppg).
The 2007 consensus National Player of the Year with the Longhorns, Durant became just the 11th player in NBA history to win back-to-back scoring titles and first since Kobe Bryant claimed consecutive scoring titles in 2005-07. Durant joins a list of current and former NBA players who have won consecutive scoring titles that includes: Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan, George Gervin, Bob McAdoo, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Neil Johnston and George Mikan.
Last season, Durant became the youngest scoring champion in NBA history (21 years, 197 days). The previous mark was held by Max Zaslofsky of the Chicago Stags (22 years, 105 days), when the league's scoring champion was determined by total points scored.
