No. 25 Women's Tennis defeats Iowa State, 5-2

AMES, Iowa - No. 25 Texas (14-6, 9-2 Big 12) took the doubles point and won four of six singles matches on its way to a 5-2 win over host Iowa State (11-12, 1-9 Big 12) Saturday evening at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
Texas opened the match with a sweep of the doubles matches to claim the doubles point and assume a 1-0 lead. UT's 49th-ranked tandem of Amanda Craddock and Cierra Gaytan-Leach opened with an 8-4 victory over the Cyclones' Tessa Lang and Maria Fernanda Macedo. The Horns clinched the doubles point at the second slot, where Krista Damico and Caroline Larsson teamed up for an 8-4 win over Simona Cacciuttolo and Erin Karonis. UT's Juliana Gajic and Maggie Mello wrapped up the doubles session with an 8-7 (3) win over Liza Wischer and Jenna Langhorst.
Texas pushed its lead to 2-0 at third singles, where Craddock posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over ISU's Lang. The Longhorns' lead ballooned to 3-0 at fifth singles, where Gaytan-Leach finished off a 7-6 (1), 6-4 win over the Cyclones' Marie-Christine Chartier. Texas clinched the victory at fourth singles, where UT's Gajic dealt ISU's Cacciuttolo a 6-1, 6-3 defeat.
The Horns' Damico pushed the UT lead to 5-0 at first singles, as she knocked off the Cyclones' Karonis, 7-6 (5), 6-3. The Cyclones won the two remaining matches in third-set match tiebreaks.
Texas will begin play at the Big 12 Championship in two weeks at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco. The Horns' 9-2 conference record likely will be enough to give Texas a first-round bye.
